Typically when people ask what I do and I try to actually tell them, I see eyes glaze over and weird expressions of confusion. It ends up translating as anything from, “Oh you fix computers?” to “Oh you make websites?” Well, not exactly…
So I’ve found over the 6 years I’ve worked online, the easiest thing to say is I do internet marketing. And people smile, nod and try not to ask any more questions than that. But really, what I do online is not much different from what you do offline. I help potential customers learn what you do, give them an idea of what you’re about, and help them buy from you.
There’s nothing more frustrating to me than a great local business with no information online. Or worse, wrong information online. I get offline business – I was a retail manager for about ten years. It’s hard work that leaves little time to think about anything outside the front door of your business. And the workday doesn’t leave too much time for “extras.”
With more and more people walking around with the internet in their pockets, on their smart phones, looking for places to shop, places to eat, and things to do, online isn’t an “extra” anymore. It’s as important as the sign on your building and the hours on your front door. It’s your display window online.
People today use the yellow pages as booster seats and doorstops – customers won’t find you there anymore. And for about what you would spend on an ad in that big yellow doorstop, I can help build a dynamic online presence for your business that tells them what you do and brings them through your front door. It’s not that complicated and it’s pretty inexpensive. But the options can be confusing if it’s not what you do every day.
I cut through all the clutter and pick the online options and venues that make sense for your business. I know how they work and I make them go. And I make sure that when your new customers go looking for you, they’ll find you. They’ll know what you do, what your hours are, how to find you and how to reach you. How to buy from you. That they can buy from you – they’ll know you exist.
So, it doesn’t matter to me that most people don’t know what I do. It’s important to me that they will know what you do.
As a client it’s not even that important that you know or understand everything I do. You’ll know that I get your business online in a way that gets you new, happy customers.
